Good points:
Dear Car enthusiasts, I have a Volkswagon Golf TDI 2000. A year ago, my husband and I took our Volkswagon to the garage as it kept losing power and the engine would cut out completely at speed or standing still. After our first visit to our Volkswagon Service Repair shop, we found that the car was not "repaired" but was still cutting out. I will share with you two cutting out eg.'s I was driving in the evening along the 1&9 in NJ towards Elizabeth at about 45 m.p.h. and while among fast moving traffic the engine cut. There was no where to pull over and when there was, with no engine, I found it very difficult to turn the steering wheel and get the car of the road. In that instant I was extremely scared and was very pleased to see my husband whom I was collecting from work. On another instant, I was driving again along the 1&9 and the engine cut. This time a gas station was close and I was able to try to turn the car into the entrance- but it was hard to turn the wheel and I ended up saying hello to a bush. At othertime we have had to roll to a stop , hope that the car behind is taking notice and wait to start the car again as it does not immediately start after it has cut out. A week and a half ago, we went to collect our car again. As we were also collecting a new key, we were told to wait 20 minutes while they programmed the key. After paying $300- on a receipt that said the car was 100% running, VW then told us they needed to keep the car as an error on the "computer " was showing up. The following week we collected our car and that evening again our car cut out. In fact it has every day this week. After being a regular VW customer on the VW customer Service phones, the problem with our car is always referred to as a concern- in my opinion I am more concerned with the fact that Volkswagon have made a car which they cannot repair or diagnose the problem that is causing our car engine to cut out. Every time we collect the car it seems that VW are taking a chance in that they are guessing what might be wrong. Thankfully we havent had a serious traffic accident yet- although considering the manner of this problem, if I were VW, I would be very concerned. If this happens to your car- expect it to visit the shop more than 11 times. Also, regardless of the fact volkswagon can't seem to mend our car- they will not provide us with a rental car or service car when they are "repairing" it. Although that is not normal practice- after continuous visits and paying over $1000 for a problem which has not be remedied-I would have thought that decent. Now everytime I phone volkswagon I get extremely upset. It is very stressful and you feel like you are hitting your head against a brick wall- We keep taking our car in hoping they will fix it and they can't even diagnose it correctly. It is stressful when you have to rely on a friends car often while our car is in the shop, and more importantly it is stressful when you are faced with the stronger possibility of your car cutting out at speed with a large trucker who isn't looking behind you. I will never ever buy volkswagon again. Hopefully they will fix this although I have absolutely no faith in Volkswagon. I could not sell this car and buy a new one because I couldn't sell it knowing that it has this problem. This evening I intend to go to every site possible on Volkswagon and post this letter. My husband and I are teachers and as many of our colleagues give us rides home while our car is in the shop- I don't think they will pass on good reccommendations about VWs either. I am sick and tired of Volkswagon not fixing our Volkswagon Golf. Safe Driving to everyone and I hope you do not ever have this problem. I wouldn't think of buying a car which is a larger risk to your own life and your families. Kind Regards Joanna Miles (Rahway, NJ, USA)
