Renault Scenic review by ADS

1-4-2005

Overall rating: 6/10

Good points:

Good driving position and visibility, fairly quiet and seats very comfortable. I particularly like the airiness of the cabin. Pull of 1.9 diesel very good, super torque at motorway speeds. keyless ignition/locking brilliant

Bad points:

For such a modern 'designer' design I think style has won over practicality. The door pockets are impossible to get anything out of because they are too narrow to fit your hand in, the ashtray is useless, the moving centre console is just a posh hole - no oddments stowage available anywhere easy - the dashboard while very visual is pretty useless with information (apart from speedo) being far too small and disjointed, boot is also disappointing in size for such a largish vehicle. Renault roof bars are horrendously noisy and the trim after just 25,000 miles is beginning to rattle and come apart.

Main review:

Renault Scenic 1.9 dci priviledge.1994 Car is comfortable, airy and, with all the options, very well equipped. However while the interior style looks great, I think the designers should have concentrated on the little points which make driving a pleasure rather than being style victims. Oddments stowage is appalling or difficult, the dashboard is confusing, the ashtray is useless, the rear parcel shelf is flimsy, the Renault supplied roofbars are terribly noisy(and a bad fit), the auto wipers are mediocre, the heated seats are iffy, the heating is weak, the gearchange is notchy etc etc. However, the kids absolutely adore the car, my dad thinks its the best thing since sliced bread (especially the access and seating positions) and the engine is very good for its size. Overall a good family/touring car, but not one that has been thought out properly, or screwed together very well. I has been however, very reliable apart from minor squeaks and rattles.I will go back to buying a proper large estate car next time.

Reliability: 8/10

Practicality: 8/10

Performance: 6/10

Value for money: 6/10
