Renault Megane review by Gergő 4-15-2004 Overall rating: 9/10 Good points: Great sporty, agressive look, very well equipped, lots of automatic gadgets, practical storage places, good price, nice support (4 years warranty + 10 years renault assistance in Hungary) Bad points: High fuel consumption. Delicate, parts feel cheap under the surface. Main review: I fell in love with the look of this car the first time I saw it on the streets. It had to be may next car.
For it's price it's exceptionally well equipped: air condition, CD, sunroof, and all the automatic devices: lights, locks, windshield wipers. Keycard. The little storage places everywhere prove to be really practical in everyday use, especially in Hungary, where nothing should be left in sight when you park your car because of thieves.
Before I bought the car, I was warned about the strange shape of the boot. This hadn't caused any inconvenience for me, but I haven't been on many longer trips with the car yet.
My biggest disappointment about the car is the fuel consumption. This has an 1.6 petrol engine, I mainly use it in the city (85%), but I still think the 9.2 l/100km average is quite high. My previous car was a twingo, it needed about 2/3 of this amount. So it is a lot more expensive to operate. Other than that, I'm really satisfied with the car. Maybe one other thing: although nothing came up in the first half year of owning it, everything in it feels a little bit delicate, sensitive. When you look under the surface many parts have a cheap fealing to them. I have to add I didn't buy the highest equipment level. The long warranty period and the Renault assistance all give me a good peace of mind.
Overall I really love this car, and can recommend it to anyone. Reliability: 8/10 Practicality: 9/10 Performance: 9/10 Value for money: 10/10
