Nissan Micra review by Roger12-6-2004
Overall rating: 8/10 Good points: Excellent chassis, utterly reliable and solidly built, good stereo (on SE model). The 1.2 petrol is reasonably economical - mine averages about 46mpg (a real figure based on a year's fill-ups, not the trip computer which claims 48-49mpg). This is a couple of mpg better than the old 1.3. It's stable and not too noisy on the motorway although it's doing nearly 3,500rpm at 70. Generally it's fun to drive provided you remember it needs LOTS of revs. Bad points: Rather a heavy car for the little 1.2 engine - this is only 33cc smaller and 5bhp more powerful than the 1.3 engine in the last model, but performance is lacklustre due to the extra weight. It improves a little as the engine runs in, then you can dare to rev it harder. The Intelligent Key works but is a solution looking for a problem. I have to fish out the keys to open the garage anyway. You might hate the looks - it's not bad at the front but the back is seriously weird. Nissan servicing is almost criminally expensive, although I hear VW are worse. Main review: Although performance is lacking, it's a better built car than my old Yaris T Sport and should be more reliable based on my previous Nissans (the Yaris broke down). Definitely worth considering if you can live with the looks.
Reliability: 10/10 Practicality: 7/10 Performance: 6/10 Value for money: 8/10
