Mercedes C Class Review & Road TestReview by www.new-car-reviews.co.uk
Drivers Improved steering and handling qualities combined with more mainstream styling should tempt many BMW 3-Series drivers to take a closer look at this much sportier Mercedes C-Class. For more keen drivers the optional sports suspension enhances the already excellent handling of the Mercedes C-Class. Two way adjustable steering on the new Mercedes is standard as would be expected of a car in this class. On the negative side, some of the controls on the new C-Class Mercedes are a little confusing, in particular trip data controls on the steering wheel and navigation systems could be simpler. The foot operated parking brake also takes some getting used to, particularly cars with a manual gearbox. Rear visibility in the coupe is a little restricted and can make parking a little difficult.
Passengers The ability of the new Mercedes C-Class to cosset passengers is superb, low wind and tyre noise are evident on all models (except the coupe fitted with low profile tyres). Front seat passengers have plenty of space to stretch and even the coupe can carry two average sized adults in the rear in reasonable comfort, although getting in and out requires a degree of suppleness.
Practicality Split fold rear-seats are standard on all models and add versatility to the Mercedes C-Class. Cabin storage is also excellent and a surprisingly large glove box will prove very useful, although much of this space is taken up if you opt for the CD multi-changer.
Equipment SE specification cars are well equipped and the additional trim/features represent good value for money. Standard radio/cassette players can be changed for a CD player.
Safety & Security (previous model)
Traction control and anti-skid systems are a highly appropriate standard option on the rear-drive C-Class Mercedes. Emergency braking is uneventful thanks to Brake Assist which applies full braking pressure in the event of an emergency.
The Mercedes has vast array of airbags , as would be expected of a car in this class, two stage front Air bags rate of deployment is dependent on the speed of impact are complimented by high level window bags all round. Optional side airbags front and rear can also be added.
Quality & Reliability The Mercedes C-Class is difficult to fault in terms of build quality and materials used are also of a high calibre (apart from a few lapses e.g. plastic rear vents). To put your mind at the Mercedes C-Class carries a three year unlimited mileage warranty.
Owning Rock-solid build quality combined with the desirability of the Mercedes marquee guarantee strong residual values. Fuel economy is also reasonable, averaging around 30 mpg on petrol engined variants and 40 mpg on turbo-diesels.
