Ford Mondeo review by B Sanke 10-15-2004 Overall rating: 10/10 Good points: Attractive design, large boot, loads of space for passengers, superb handling, comfortable ride, excellent economy, very reliable. Bad points: Depreciation, ugly and cheap looking clock on dash, small side mirrors. Main review: The 'Ford' batch used to be reason enough for me to simply avoid all their cars, as they always appeared to be below average and cheap. However, I have changed my mind when I bought a Focus Zetech in 2001 as this car managed to change my entire attitude about this manufacturer.
Driver:
This car most certainly impresses with its performance and outstanding road handling. It 'grows' on you very quickly and leaves you feeling very save, indeed. The ride is sporty and yet comfortable. It leaves one feel relaxed even after a long journey. The clever combination of adjustable driver's seat and steering wheel is a joy as is the high quality interior of the car. All in all, a very serious contender for Volkswagen, Audi and the like as this car does not need to be ashamed of anything in terms of quality, road handling and feel-good-factor.
Passengers:
The Mondeo offers loads of space even for 'backseat passengers' sitting behind a long legged driver like my self. Passengers are generally impressed with the comfort and quietness of the ride.
Equipment:
The Mondeo's equipment level is more than impressive as it includes ABS, IPS, Remote Central Locking, Aircon and bags more of useful features. German competitors have reason to fear this car.
Conclusion:
Ford has proved again that they are capable of producing a very reliable and desirable car. This is a motor not to be sniffed at. The only downside is the heavy depreciation of the car since it has become the most desirable fleet car of the nation. Apart from this we are certainly looking at a car with charm and feel-good factor.
Reliability: 10/10 Practicality: 10/10 Performance: 10/10 Value for money: 10/10
