Citroen review by Simon Powell

1-4-2005

Overall rating: 3/10

Good points:

It's a family car and if everything worked according to how the they were meant to, then this vehicle would be a good family car.

Bad points:

Anything electronic and computer controlled

Main review:

The C8 has been recognised as a fantastic family vehicle and to this point I would agree, but it is a Citroen and therefore the reliability is somewhat off the mark to say the least. The WOW factor of the car has to be the electronic remote sliding twin doors. These can be opened by the push of a button inside the vehicle or by the remote keyfob. However, bu my experience, this is technology that should not have been introduced and sales should not have been based upon this feature because it quite simply is unreliable and does not work consistantly. Another gripe would have to be the computer components within the car. It controls everything, from automatic lighting to oil readings. Again, it dosen't always do what it says on the tin. Engine oil could one day be completely full, turn the ignition off then back on, and hey presto, it's registering as empty! The auotmatic lights might decide that 1.30am is not quite dark enough to turn on? The computer might decide that there is a break failiure for a few seconds before thinking otherwise. It all seems to boil down to the fact that the technology park of this otherwise very good vehicle is full of bugs! Oh, and don't expect the dealership to figure anything out. They simply plug the workshop computer into the car, the car says there is nothing wrong to the workshop computer. The mechanic says there's nothing wrong to the customer. End of matter, until the next week that is, and the next week and... ...you get the picture. Driving the C8 is quite pleasureable. It has little body roll although the ride can be quite firm. Fuel economy is resonable too, but an 80 litre tank can cost a lot to fill from empty. Overall the vehicle would be average if it wasn't for the electrics doors and that darn computer.

Reliability: 0/10

Practicality: 7/10

Performance: 6/10

Value for money: 5/10
