BMW 3 Series review by Ken Leech6-10-2005
Overall rating: 5/10 Good points: The image that goes with ownership. Smooth 6 cylinder diesel with good economy. Bad points: Poorly equiped by comparison to "cheaper" cars. Handling is not all it's cracked up to be. Build quality poor. Main review: Fords will give it a good run for the money. Above all the build quality and reliability is awefull compared to a BM of a few years ago. Certainly not a patch on a Volvo V70 for quality and if you sit in an up market Mondeo the 3 series looks sad. Though it has only let me down twice (!) in the 5, years my 330d touring has visited the dealer 17 times in that time ( under 50k miles)for serious faults. Fortunately I took out the extended warranty @ £520 and it proved a wise move. This year the warranty will be £720 so the car will have to go. It's like a financial time bomb. By the way; don't believe all the hype about them holding their value.....they are as bad as anything else except that you pay a lot so you lose a lot.
Reliability: 3/10 Practicality: 7/10 Performance: 7/10 Value for money: 2/10
