Alfa Romeo 147 Review & Road TestReview by www.new-car-reviews.co.uk
Summary Even two years later the 147 manages to retain a fresh and stylish outlook and it still represents a refined alternative for image conscious buyers, definitely a serious competitor to rivals like the Golf, Focus and Civic. Contradicting normal expectations of poor build quality and finish, the 147 is solidly constructed and the interior is well trimmed and finished, equipment levels are also good for the class. As ever the main reason for selecting an Alfa Romeo 147 over its rival is likely to be performance. The 147 doesn't disappoint, road holding is excellent, body roll minimal and the steering is responsive and provides plenty of feedback. The Selespeed models also have a Formula-one syle paddle gearchange system on the steering column. The twin spark engines are great fun, high revving but still manage to return reasonable economy figures. Engine choices range from a 1.6 petrol engine (which is a little underpowered) to the truly excellent 3.2 litre V6 that propels the car to a top speed of 153 mph and from 0-60 in 6.3 seconds. On the down side rear vision isn't brilliant and rear passengers get a bid of a raw deal, head and legroom are at best average for the class. Also on the flip side the stiffer set-up of the car means that the ride can get a little jarring on uneven and rough road surfaces. Review ©2006 New-car-reviews.co.uk Do you agree? Do you disagree?
